Tooth Extractions & Oral Surgery

At Silver 7 Dental, we provide a range of tooth extraction and minor oral surgery services in Kanata in a
comfortable, caring, and professional environment. Whether you need a straightforward tooth removal, treatment
of a difficult or impacted tooth, or a biopsy of an area of concern, our team will carefully assess your needs and
discuss the most appropriate treatment options with you.

Whenever possible, our goal is to preserve your natural teeth. An extraction is recommended only when
removing the tooth is considered the best option for your oral health.

Tooth Extraction Services We Provide

Simple Tooth Extractions

A simple extraction may be recommended when a tooth cannot reasonably be restored because of extensive
decay, fracture, advanced gum disease, infection, or other dental problems. After examining the tooth and
reviewing the appropriate X-rays, we will explain your treatment options and what to expect before, during, and
after the procedure.

Complex & Surgical Extractions

Some teeth require a more involved surgical approach because they are badly broken, positioned below the
gumline, difficult to access, or have complex root anatomy. Our team provides complex and surgical dental
extractions when appropriate, with careful planning to make the procedure as comfortable and predictable as
possible.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, may cause pain, swelling, infection, damage to neighbouring teeth, or
other oral health concerns. We provide assessment and removal of many erupted, partially erupted, and
impacted wisdom teeth. Your dentist will evaluate the position of your wisdom teeth and determine whether
treatment can be provided at our office or whether referral to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon is more
appropriate.

Removal of Broken or Severely Damaged Teeth

A tooth that has fractured significantly or broken near or below the gumline may sometimes be impossible to
restore. Depending on the condition of the tooth and surrounding bone, a surgical extraction may be required.
We will first assess whether the tooth can be saved before recommending removal.

Dental Infection & Emergency Extractions

Severe toothache, swelling, or dental infection may sometimes require urgent treatment. When a tooth cannot
be predictably restored, extraction may be one of the treatment options. If you are experiencing significant pain
or swelling, contact Silver 7 Dental for an assessment as soon as possible.

Oral Biopsy

Changes in the tissues of the mouth should be evaluated carefully. Depending on the clinical findings, a biopsy
may be recommended to help establish a diagnosis. We can assess suspicious or persistent areas involving the
gums, cheeks, tongue, lips, or other oral tissues. When appropriate, a small tissue sample may be removed and
sent to a pathology laboratory for examination. More complex or concerning conditions may be referred to the
appropriate specialist.

Bone Preservation After Extraction

If you are considering replacing an extracted tooth with a dental implant, preserving the surrounding bone can
be important. Depending on your individual situation, we may recommend socket preservation or bone
grafting at the time of extraction to help maintain the bone and prepare the area for possible future implant
treatment.

What to Expect

Before treatment, your dentist will review your medical and dental history, examine the area, and take
appropriate dental imaging. We will explain why the extraction or surgical procedure is recommended, available
alternatives, potential risks, and post-treatment instructions. Local anesthetic is used to keep the treatment area
comfortable. The complexity and length of the procedure depend on the tooth's position, root anatomy,
surrounding bone, and other individual factors. After treatment, you will receive instructions on caring for the
surgical area and reducing the risk of complications.
